My largest single sale commission ever still stands at $149.90 however I had a humdinger yesterday that came from one of my Youtube Amazon Ebay affiliate mashup sites at $99.60 for one sale.

I'm actually in the 7% bracket with amazon this month but for some lame reason they cap electronics at 4% commission rate.

The Youtube Amazon Ebay affiliate mashup sites are rather slow earners for me overall because I don't spend more than 5 minutes on them and forget about them usually (copy one site, add keywords, upload, done).

However, they do earn for me slowly. I also put adsense on them that earn me some random clicks and a random affiliate sale here and there. Remember they only need to earn $10 (or the fee for registration) per year and the rest is all profit ;-)

A Great Domain Parking Solution

I think the if you have any domains parked you should consider trying your luck with a Youtube Amazon Ebay affiliate mashup site. The script is free so I gain nothing (except a link back) by saying that, however I've never had luck with sites like Sedo but have with the mashups.

You also get some pages indexed in google using a script instead of a simple parking page. Plus you are more likely to grab a random backlink.

An updated mashup

There were some concerns with the Youtube Amazon Ebay affiliate mashup site about getting the ebay links to turn to your affiliate links. The current version for download now is a Commission Junction setup which should satisfy most of you.

This means you can now enter your PID and SID in the settings and your ebay links will automagically turn into affiliate links.

Sidenote: The script is still creative commons with attrition. I'll try to answer any questions but I can't do it all ;-) Feel free to hack up your own version and share with the community.

First of all, thanks for making this script.

I've gotten everything working except for the YouTube API token; I can't seem to find where I can get a token. Is this what they call the legacy API at http://www.youtube.com/dev ?
45n5 () says on October 30, 2007:
thanks for the headsup. the old api stuff still works but I'll need to update the script again to accommodate their new api.

your api key is probably a new one that's why it doesn't work with the script.

I'll put it on the todo list

How are you picking these niches, they seem so random? Do you close your eyes and pick something out of a catalog?

45n5 () says on October 30, 2007:
@PHP eBook - depends on what I'm picking the niche for. Basically if I see something that I think is a good domain name I want, or is expired with backlinks, or has overture searches and is avaiable, etc. i'll put up a mashup site there. Now if I'm wanting to develop a blog I will pick the niche for other reasons.

btw. phpcookies.com is a site one of the visitor shere is moving into here that you might like. I've made a couple posts there. thought that would interest you because you are writing a php book and that author is studying for php certification.

Hey! Read the fine print on Amazon.com affiliates once more!

If you choose the standard flat-rate program you are entitled to more than 4% payouts on 'high value merchandise'

Its only with the progressive rate program they cap at 4%! ( i think)

Best,
Daniel

I've got more of a question than a comment. I am going to be running an affiliate program in about 1 month. My affiliate manager told me that he thought recurring commissions were a bad idea. See, my site will be a business directory. Businesses will sign up for a membership that cost a $50 setup fee and $20 a month, and I thought, why not have a 35% commission on the set up fee, and the first 12 monthly payments. It would be $101.5, but spread out over a year. My manager said affiliates don't like recurring payments, and it would be a disincentive for continued sign ups, as they would rest on their laurels.

What do you think?

thanks pat, i'm off to check it out

@daniel - I reread things and I'm in the performance bracket but i don't see anything you mention

@advice network - I don't have an answer, not sure I even understand the question. There are many examples of affiliates that pay recurring commissions. Widgetbucks is one I recently joined.

I finally got it working but in a hokey way. I am no good at XML. If you want my code, I can send it to you. I am not going to release it myself because I am no good at support. I am only good at COBOL programming, not PHP, XML, etc. :) so it was just a bunch of trial and error. It is a cool script though - thanks!

thanks pat......... I almost got it so far, shouldn't be long ;-)

I got the goodies at this url

http://code.google.com/apis/youtube/developers_guide_protocol.html

and it now calls gdata.youtube.com

what's interesting is that it doesn't require an api key anymore.. kudos

thanks again.
45n5 () says on October 30, 2007:
ok, the new code is uploaded and available to download. no more youtube developer key is needed.

Almost missed this if not for Pat. ;) Gotta check this out, Mark. Never had much luck with Amazon but it's probably due to niche. But this has just given me some other ideas. Cheers!

Nice one Mark! I am trying to set-up one mashup script... and I hope to get commissions like this.

I got a $104 from an old site a few days ago. It felt good, was pure luck (see http://www.fabnetrevenue.com/2007/11/10/this-affiliate-commission-made-my-day/).

By the way, for the mini-site, I have difficulty to get the Ebay REST key... I have a ebay developer id now but where do I go after ? Thanks.
