Today we'll try finish the sentence. I'll start it off and you finish it. Me first:
Adsense Works The Best When:
It's placed on sites that attract local searches for products or services.
For instance a directory of lawyers, accounts, carpenters, real estate agents, maintenance people, dentists, etc.
I just always seem to get higher priced clicks when someone searches for "Kentucky doctor" instead of just "doctor" or higher clicks for "columbus, oh florist" instead of "florist" for examples.
So what is your answer?
Here's a bonus one you can try also if you want to,
Adsense Works The Worst When:
It's a themed site and you create a page that isn't related to the theme. For instance if you have a banana site that ranks real well so you try and slip a mortgage page on the site to take advantage of the ranking power. This never works for me and probably hurts.
Adsense isn't my favorite, I always try affiliate products first now but I see many people with a renewed interest in adsense lately so I thought I'd make this post, your turn:

I am not sure if adsense works best when on a local site but if you focus on a local market in your niche you are going to get more buyers as opposed to browsers which means a higher click through rate. For an adsense site that is key. Content is key of course but if you can make your content more "localized" then the better your traffic will be and then your adsense earnings. At least that has been my experience.

Thanks for the post on adsense. I've tried creating adsense sites before, but with limited success. Maybe I'll try another one using your insight. Thanks again!

@internet apprentice - no no, I said I do affiliate marketing first ;) reread the last sentence. I always try affiliate marketing first and if that doesn't work follow with adsense
@richard - maybe that is why the clicks pay more, they are more willing to buy with a local keyword added to it. not sure but those sites seem to make me higher cost per clicks.

In my experience I see the best results when putting adsense on pages that get most their traffic from search engines. I would assume this is because these people are already in "search mode" so if they get to my site and the first thing they see is a targeted adsesnse links they are likely to click them.

I have never made anything on adsense, maybe I should try a new site. The affiliate site I want to do will be a static site, maybe that would work better.

I have found that it works the best at the top left hand corner of a keyword targeted page. I put two side by side on my how to make money experimental info site and the one on the left got lots of clicks and the one right next to it got none at all.
It also works well if you can target an audience that is less web "smart" or click happy. Hardened marketers and geeks rarely click advert types that they see a lot of. They develop an "ad blindness" that you can not overcome for very long without getting in your own way.

Never had luck with adsense, I use WidgetB and shoppinad...
Amazingly, they perform well and they have live customer service support!

Adsense works best on sites with Teen demographics - Myspace resource sites.

Adsense works best when the ads blend in with the site!
Pat says on April 28, 2008
I agree with Lord Matt and Royal Radande. I was going to say what Matt said - it works best on people who are new to the net and will click on anything.
Thanks for the tip about local searches. I will have to try that out. :)

@pat - glad your getting back into action ;)
@all - h ave to disagree on the heavy clickers, young clickers, dumb clickers.
I think those get low clicks. It's like getting 100 clicks and only making 4.00.
Or you can get 100 clicksa and make 10-20 dollars with better traffic on the same pages in my opinion.

When the maximum allowed Ads are places on the site which will provide an amazing CTR.

Mark, I have been busy trying to make money, my mmo blog doesn't make any money :)
Had to work on other sites.
Good point about the 10-20$ clicks.

@Mark - Your question was not "Adsense is most profitable" but rather "Adsense works best" thus heavy clickers, young clickers, dumb clickers example.
45n5 says on April 28, 2008
@sob - best in my opinion is the most profitable ;)

Thank you for sharing these tips about Adsense, especially the one about sites that attract local searches.
When I first put Adsense on my website I was earning a grand total of about $3 a month until I read Joel Comm's adsense report. As soon as I implemented some of his ideas about placement and customizing, income shot up to $100 a month and has continued to grow as I continually make changes that bring increased profits.

I have had adsens on my site for a long time. I do not get any revenue! So I think they suck!
