Agloco has a few blogs in my reader talking about it, like Problogger and Net business blog, to name a couple discussing it in the past 6 hours.Agloco Is Stupid, seriously, give me a break.
This is a company that wants to install a toolbar on my computer which serves me advertisements all day and this is something I'm supposed to be interested in?
And then I'm supposed to recruit my friends to watch advertisements all day also? Seriously?
Most people pay money to have advertising toolbars removed from their computers, lol, and Agloco wants me to recruit these people to put advertising toolbars on their computers.
Sorry, but, ain't gonna happen.
I'm passing on this one.

I think you should learn a bit more about Agloco and about the viewbar software they are talking about, you see the number one thing you've forgotten to mention is that there not just paying you to use a simple viewbar there giving you a chunk of the company.
Agloco was created by the same people who created AllAdvantage which paid out more then 120 million in advertising revenue to their members but the AllAdvantage model was stupid, there was nothing different about it however the new Agloco business model does so much more then just display advertisements to you.
It returns the advertising dollars to their members, I'm sure I won't change your mind but I'm not trying to all I would like to see more bloggers do is to explain their actions a little better and give some facts or reason behind what they say instead of just saying something is stupid.

Adam,
"I think you should learn a bit more about Agloco"
Agloco is in CLOSED beta. People can't download this or test it out. People are promoting this piece of spyware ENTIRELY on HYPE.
Personally I don't think people should promote something they haven't tried or others can't try, sounds like snake oil to me. Is this really debatable? LOL
"I would like to see more bloggers do is to explain their actions a little better and give some facts or reason behind what they say instead of just saying something is stupid."
I explained my reason behind calling Agloco stupid very clearly..... They want me to watch ads all day and then they want me to recruit my friends to watch ads all day. It doesn't matter what they want to pay me, I find this stupid!

Thanks, Matt. It's all in good fun ;-)
Sorry for the double comment at your blog. It didn't show up, i thought I did something wrong and tried again. Now it's there twice.

"You should be aware that the logo you created is violating the rights of a US Trademark."
Thanks for the concern Mark however I believe you are wrong.
It's a parody of the the trademark.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parody
"Although a parody can be considered a derivative work under United States Copyright Law, it can be protected under the fair use doctrine, which is codified in 17 USC § 107. The Supreme Court of the United States stated that parody "is the use of some elements of a prior author's composition to create a new one that, at least in part, comments on that author's works." That commentary function provides some justification for use of the older work. See Campbell v. Acuff-Rose Music, Inc.
Other notable US court decisions involving parody include Suntrust v. Houghton Mifflin (Affirming the right of Alice Randall to publish a parody of Gone with the Wind called The Wind Done Gone, which told the same story from the point of view of Scarlett O'Hara's slaves),"
As I've already mentioned it's in good FUN, if Agloco cares about it they just need to let me know and I'll remove it.
Vlad says on February 5, 2007
Mark, great come back on the trademark "threat".... Your logo expresses perfectly what I feel about this hype, I see it as a GREAT PARODY.
The first time I have ever learned about this "eviloco" was from a spam e-mail with no option to unsubscribe! Thus I refuse to even give them another look. What happens if you promote any CJ merchant via unsolicited e-mail? If cuaght you will be kicked out for sure.
Great post as usual!

I like the logo. It suits me since I am the "root of all evil."
As for "watching advertisements all day", they only pay for 5 hours a month. After that, you can turn it off and enjoy the rest of the month Viewbar free.
Allan says on February 6, 2007
Having recently looked at Agloco my first reaction was MLM, it does feel a bit dodgy.
However I have been considering promoting it and the only reason is the potential money you can earn. I say potential as they do seem to be very vague (yes I have read their sites, the forums and blogs).
If I proceed I am not going to feel comfortable about it. The only reason I may proceed is that you don't have to buy anything and you can decide yuorself how much effort/money you want to spend promoting it.
In the back of my mind I really can't see it working. The reason for this is that everyone else is doing this for the exact same reason, they want the money. No one is going to use the toolbar or click on the ads and after the 5 hours they will just switch it off for the rest of the month.
This will mean ad revenue will quickly dry up (who is going to pay to advertise to an unresponsive audience) and the whole thing will collapse.
Yet knowing this I still have the urge to join in!
Vlad says on February 6, 2007
Allan,
You have just make a perfect point of why not to join. I do not understand how ny one can promote something that they themselves see as a failure? If you for example sell (via affiliate link) let say iPod, your sales would be low if you were telling people at the same time that iPod is a picea of crap.
There is nothing wrong about making up your mind. There is nothing wrong to call crap by its name. Thanks again Mark! ;)
45n5 says on February 6, 2007
John, I never called you the root of all evil, that is your quote. And yes I realize it's only 5 hours per month, Right Now, probably because they don't have enough advertisers.
Allan, I don't understand your logic but good luck with it.
Vlad, I'm glad somebody else feels like me ;-)
Thanks for stopping by and commenting everybody!
John Chow says on February 6, 2007
I know you didn't call me the root of all evil but many others have and I hope you could add me to the list so it will strengthen my rep. :)
If you don't believe in it, then you shouldn't sell it. That goes with out saying. You can't promote something you don't believe in.
Allan - Thanks for the reply. You just given me my next AGLOCO post because I know how to answer that question that is in the back of your mind.
Last time around, I made $25,000 with AllAdvantage and signed up over 10,000 people. Here's a key. I made money. it actually work. It died with the dot com crash, but I still came out on top (by $25K). So you will not see me being negative with AGLOCO because I know money can be made from it. And when I promote it, I promote it because I believe it. Which could be why I am coming up on 5,000 sign ups already. :)
45n5 says on February 6, 2007
Alright then - JOHN CHOW IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL!!!!!!!!
Although I'm kind of jealous now as that is quite a title ;-)
"Last time around, I made $25,000 with AllAdvantage".
I didn't have that experience, and I guess 99.8% of readers didn't either, and I guess 99.8% of readers won't have that experience with agloco, so I can't relate. I only relate to annoying adware on computers.
John Chow says on February 6, 2007
Like most things, you will get out of it what you put into it. Over 80% of members don't sign up another person. They will just run the viewbar and make a few bucks each month, which still put them in the black.
45n5 says on February 6, 2007
"Like most things, you will get out of it what you put into it."
Ah yes and now we've come full circle.
I don't want to put time and energy into promoting something that installs Ads on my computer and my friends computers. And particularly not because I might "get rich" if I "get in early".
Agloco is still stupid.
Thanks for the comments John!

If CashFiesta can function all these years online
paying their members for utilizing their toolbar,
what makes you think a company such as Agloco won't?
They said Microsoft would not work either.
There is naysayers in everything, every where you go.
Telling people about Agloco, before the viewbar is
active, what is the harm? There is no harm at all.
In fact, I fathom to say, many people will be very
glad they heard about it early.
How long has CashFiesta been online?
YEARS!
Before you make such incredibily ridiculous remarks,
you should attempt doing a tad of homework first instead
of displaying your ignorance for all the world wide web
to see.
MSN messenger....what is stupid about it?
Thousands to millions of people keep MSN messenger
open on their desk top. It displays ads.
Every where you go online, displays ads.
IF anything or anyone is stupid, it is people that
do not utilize simple common sense and do their
homework before spouting off non-sensical.
You, absolutely beyond a shadow of a doubt,
have the utmost right to your freedom of speech
and choice. Displaying your ignorance however,
will do nothing but show the world you have not
did your homework.
By the way, is that a little google advert I
see on the right hand side of this page? Is that
an Alexa ranking advert over there? Duh!

"By the way, is that a little google advert I

lol, there is currently NO advertising on this site. That alexa button is a JOKE, do you honestly think this is the #1 site on the internet? And if you see a google ad on this post you need to check your glasses.
"You, absolutely beyond a shadow of a doubt,

I don't think it's a stupid idea at all.
I haven't signed up but if there a program out there that can help someone like me (small-fry blogger) get a little extra spending money, i'm all for it. Whether or not it's sustainable remains to be seen, but i'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt.

Dear all,
Nice to read such a lively debate.
I believe in Agloco and signed up on the 31st of January and so far 15 people have come on board with me.
I know it's not much but it's the beginning :-)
It's fun and it's free so you got nothing to lose.
By the way, this is my personal opinion,
Take care and have a great day,
Much energy,

Has anyone figured out who are the people behind AGOLCO?
This is a private company, registered where? Under which law?
How they will distribute shares or pay cash? so they will also ask for your bank details....
Looks like identity fraud to me... these guys will accumulate lots of email and other personal information... and then sell that to spammers... yea yea... despite their anti spam policy etc. who will know and who will sue them? So all people who join will also receive tons of spam mail or tons of money?
regards
rajiv

Those of you who don't believe that AGLOCO will work, remember that Alladvantage not only worked, it worked at a time when the Internet was much smaller than it is today and much more volatile.
In addition, take into consideration that the Viewbar will not just be an ad machine. As the official blog puts it,
"The AGLOCO Viewbar software will be capable of sensing when you are making the type of purchase for which AGLOCO has a revenue sharing program (and by potentially directing you to that partner if you are not already on their site). If you make a purchase, the Viewbar will collect the commission from that purchase. Initially, this revenue may be added to the general AGLOCO revenue pool for expenses and Member distribution, but eventually a sizeable percentage for that revenue will go directly into the Member’s account. Thus, the more a Member buys, the more money will be put into his or her account in addition to regular AGLOCO income."
I know a ton of people who are not Internet geniuses, yet they clip out coupons from the Sunday paper just to save a few bucks. For them, this will be something very attractive. Anybody who is not a Net nerd can very well still appreciate what AGLOCO has to offer.
I respect the author's opinions with regard to AGLOCO. However, it sounds like [s]he should call this web page "AGLOCO is suspect" or "I don't trust AGLOCO" - Stupid it is not!!! Click my name above to see just why.
45n5 says on February 21, 2007
Hi Michael, I'm the author above and stand by calling Agloco "stupid". It is merely an opinion. I never speculated that the company will be around long, whether it will "work" or not, or if it is well funded, or anything, I merely think the idea of
-recruiting my friends to watch ads is stupid
-promoting something you have never tried is stupid
I don't care what great things are "promised".
