geotarget.jpgGeotargetting is showing ads to people based on their location. For example it would be best to show merchants from Germany to German people.

When you are doing paid search you can't even set up an ad without setting your geotargetting options, however as publishers we have little to no control over who we show ads to.

There will be basic goetargetting in nofollowads.com so geotargetting will have a solution when released in the coming weeks.

Keyword Conversion Tracking is tracking what keywords lead to sales. Also occasionally tracked along with sales is info such as time of day and referrer.

When doing paid search most people would call you crazy not to track where the traffic is coming from and what keywords they are using to find you.

I don't have a solution in the works for this.

Which leads me to ask, are we completely ignorant as publishers when it comes to geotargetting and keyword tracking? I would say I've been pretty ignorant the past years.

I talk about the topics more in the following video:

Mark, regarding keyword conversion tracking, I have not played with this, but I thought Google Analytics was supposed to be able to track this kind of thing.

Regarding geotargeting, I have not done that either. I mostly use AdSense (which does its own geotargeting) and Clickbank products (which I think almost anyone can purchase).

These are good things to think about. It's good that you are bringing them up.

@pat - analytics might be able to help keep track of the keywords but I'm not sure how to tie it all together.

and that's just on the tracking side. analytics certainly can't help me show ads based on locations.

indeed clickbank is a geotargetting exception but adsense relies heavily on geotargetting, they just happen to do it for you like you mention.

thanks for stopping by

Google only tracks search engine keywords which is pretty nice. But I can think of many other functions I could use that Analytics doesn't have.
