There were great comments on my last video post but this comment by Wayne Porter really stood out and solidified a few things for me.

1. Attention = Revenue

2. How can I scale this?

I discuss these two points in the following video (a little long winded but that's me ;-):

From now on we should figure out how to capture people's attention (and keep it) plus work on our ability to scale our online activities.

Now that was a great video. The first post didn't depress me but it did give me a lot to think about. Wayne's feedback and your response really makes me question my own approach to making money online. I'm a software developer and am building my own site & blog s/w, much like I believe you've done. Now on reflection and with the benefit of hindsight, do you think you would have gone with pre-baked sites & blog tools, or would you still have built your own?

I'm thinking with the time it takes to develop:
--> custom != scale.

But I really value the lessons I get out of rolling my own.

well... maybe you loose time developing it, but it's more custom, and you are unique... Almost everyone these days is using wordpress or whatsoever :)

(custom < pre-baked) = scale, that would be my solution, they are both equal to scale, if you do it right, but custom gets lower scale.

There is huge power in being able to code your own. In hindsight though I would have maybe tried to scale my own creations.

Like everytime I make a new css template, maybe releasing it as a wordpress theme, or when I write a script, releaseing it publicly or also selling it, etc.
