Who is you favorite domain registrar and why?

Mine is godaddy.

1. They have cheap prices. I can almost always google for "godaddy coupons" and get my .com's for $6.95

2. Customer Service 24/7. Even if I call at midnight on Saturday they will answer the phone.

3. Tools. It's brain dead simple to manage my domains there plus I've never lacked for a feature, they do domain forwarding to total dns control.

Is there any reason not to use Godaddy? I don't do anything shady or gray area so I'm not worried about getting on their bad side.

Yeah, I got to agree with you mark. I would say Goddady is the place to go. I always recomend people to register there. It's really easy to use, and they have decent cust support. However, my dad uses Godaddy for hosting and I got to say it's not that great.
Chetan says on May 5, 2008

Mine is both Godaddy and Domainsite.

Registerfly is an utter crap, lost my domains.
Network Solutions, they front run domain names.

Namcheap, not that good, not that bad.

Others, didn't try yet.
John Hasson says on May 5, 2008

I use godaddy mostly as well. The only thing I miss is that they don't let you do wildcard subdomains. (http://*.45n5.com) that sort of thing...
Royal Radande says on May 5, 2008

I have to agree with Chetan, Registerfly sucks! Stay away from them. I now use EnomCentral.com, but will try out namecheap.com with my next domain purchase.
Kevin says on May 5, 2008

I used to use GoDaddy.com religiously. But lately I've been buying them at Name.com because I can get them a buck cheaper each. Neither have spectacular domain management interfaces (GoDaddy is slow, Name is plain and not very intuitive), but for saving a few hundred bucks a year it's worth it.
bluefur () says on May 6, 2008:
I know I am bias but the number one reason I would not use them is because they have never made profit.

Businesses that loose millions of dollars a year w/o every making profit end up in the dead pool.

Don't believe me? Do a Google search on RegisterFly for last years dead pool registrar.
The Marketing Dojo says on May 6, 2008

Here's how I get my Godaddy domains for $6.95 without searching for coupons. Simply type in the phrase "domain name" in Google, the top sponsored ad will be for godaddy.com. Click through and bag that new domain for $6.95 each.
Steven says on May 6, 2008

I use Google. While they charge $9.99 and there isn't a coupon to lower this, privacy is included with every purchase so I don't have to buy that extra like I normally would in the past with GoDaddy.

That said, the same option is available through most shared webhosting companies if you buy from them, it's roughly $10 and comes with privacy, however for those without shared webhosting, Google is the next best option as far as pricing goes. Google isn't a registrar and the domain registration is powered by eNom or GoDaddy (convenient isn't it) and while there isn't a whole lot of advance settings for you to play around with, it does have everything you would need and even a start Google Page you can set up without webhosting! Albeit you're limited on page design but it's better than nothing!
Lightening says on May 6, 2008

I'm a big fan of Godaddy. Probably because they're the only ones I've used. I've also heard that they are very reputable when it comes to domain name searches. Unlike the rumours that abound about some companies that quickly buy up domains that have been searched for in the hope of reselling them for a higher fee.
James Mann says on May 6, 2008

I use GoDaddy for all my domain purchases. I have not had any issues with them and they are quite affordable.

I don't use any of their features. I just buy domains. I haven't even used a coupon there. I will have to do this the next renewal or purchase.

I have used other services in the past and still have a couple of domains that are not on GoDaddy and it always costs me more to renew them.
Adam Dempsey says on May 6, 2008

I use ResellerClub for all of my domains, so I get my .com/net/orgs for $7.25 with free privacy protection.
Lord Matt says on May 6, 2008

I am not a fan go godaddy. If all I had were domains I'd probably put up and shut up but they have cost me a lot of money over the years in crap that I could have gotten from other places at half the price and twice the value. So yeah domains ho hum - mine are still registered with them so they don't tank but at the same time... anything else - buy elsewhere.

Also I don't feel safe. At one stage I called out a guy for doing bad stuff and exposing his customers to risk and he must have spent a fortune in legal fees trying to have my blog closed. He write to me as me, he wrote to me as my boss and asked me to sack me, he wrote tot eh registrar that had the domain name and they need several hours of effort to keep them calm - the only thing he did not figure was that my server was with godaddy.

I feel sure that if he had twigged this he would have had that server off-line before I knew what was happening. Fortunately Andy Beard (great guy) talked some sense into him and he seems to have gone away.

I have no reason to trust Godaddy or distrust them (aside from the endless stories you get) but my gut reaction was to host host elsewhere. I feel safer now.
Marc Eilbeck says on May 6, 2008

I use go daddy for .com's and I use 1and1 for UK domains
CashJuke says on May 6, 2008

I do use Godaddy for all my domains but I haaaate how slow their site and the interface is. absolutely hate it. But I won't register with anyone else because like you said, .com's for 6.95 with the coupons and other features and support. I'm just used to them and I have all my domains there already which is simple for me to manage.

:]
lissie says on May 6, 2008

Luckily for me I got onto godaddy early on - currently I can register 5 + info domains for $1.19 / each and get free privacy - thats pretty cool. They are a bit slow sometimes but I only need to go in and redirect the ns so its not like Im in there much
Kyle James says on May 6, 2008

I'm going to have to agree with everyone. GoDaddy is just simple. There interface looks like it's from the 90's and has way to much stuff going on, but you can't beat the prices and easy to use.

Now like Matt said buy EVERYTHING else somewhere else besides GoDaddy. GoDaddy is a great Domain name company, but their other services are... lacking.
Collin - Feed Flare says on May 6, 2008

I am currently using bluefur dot com. Garry Jones has been great to deal with and when I was new to this online stuff he would respond to my emails with in minuets and go out of his way to make sure I was understanding what was going on.

I am taking your advice Mark and am starting my first affiliate site next week when I am back from Vegas. I was thinking of just getting a new host but the more I think about it I don't see a point in getting a bunch of hosts all over the place. I was even thinking yesterday that I was going to try my Yahoo affiliate link to use Yahoo web hosting which pays me a lot for signing up but the responses I got on on Court's site kind of made me go "maybe thats a bad idea"

So Gary, if you are reading this....another site to host is coming your way dude :)
Empress says on May 6, 2008

Well... I find GoDaddy to be suffering from the "bloat" - it takes me so long to find anything on that site. I had several domains "transferred" to them when Registerfly had all it's issues. I'm like - they can do that? But anyway, I would love to transfer away my few domains with them - not so much because of service - but because I find their site so damn annoying :D
Lee says on May 6, 2008

I'm a fan of GoDaddy, they are cheap and have good domain search facilities, although things I dislike about them are the control panel, which takes forever to load, and the numerous offers that you are presented with and just wish to register a domain. Admittedly I haven't really tried anywhere else, although there hasn't been enough wrong with GoDaddy to make me want to.
Andrew says on May 6, 2008

Am I the only one who does not get confused and tired of the 99 different upsell options I have to go through before I have my domain?

I am buying my domains with hostmonster now. Because I host my domains there. Works perfectly. It is 10 bucks a year or something. If that (the different between 10 and 6.95) is not peanuts to you then you probably should not have bought that name in the fist place.

I am not the 2000 domain kind of guy though. I buy 12 a year for each months new $10/day project (usually end up at 5-8 but it is still profitable).

Free privacy and easy setup.
Rhonda Holland says on May 6, 2008

I use GoDaddy for most of my domains. The only domains I own that aren't with them were ones I bought off someone.

Amino says on May 6, 2008

Siteground!Their service is pretty good, I didn't expect it for the price package they offered but was a lil' bit short on money.
Winery says on May 6, 2008

GoMommy is the best!!!

Can someone please explain why privacy on the owner of the domain is a big issue?

If someone really wants to know who owns that domain, there is always a way to check out.

A court order, or subpoena's is more than enough to expose you.

What is there to hide?

bluefur () says on May 6, 2008:
@Winery actually whois privacy is horrible and would not suggest anyone get it. Last year when registerfly went out of business those with whois protections domain were gone.

Again GoDaddy makes no profit (they loose millions of dollars year after year). If they go out of business you will be out your domains.

@Collin glad to hear it. :)
Bibokz says on May 6, 2008

I'm using name.com, they just only charge 5.95$ for each basic domain name registration.
Steven says on May 7, 2008

No responses Mark? Am I the only one here using Google? LOL
45n5 says on May 7, 2008

@steven - You appear to be the only one using google to register domains, I forgot they did that lol

@all - thanks for the input ;) Goddady for the win!
gene says on May 7, 2008

imho GD is crap :) have you ever tried to transfer domains out of them? To many promos during the order process etc..
But they regularly doing "sales" like info's for 0.99 which is cheapest rates.

Currently I'm using moniker.com, name.com (really cheap and no need to hunt for coupons L :)
nithin says on May 7, 2008

My favourite one is name.com

I really love them. They also support some non profit works. good.name.com

I would like any sites who support these kinds.
Also their offer are $5.99 for a .com domain and private whois is provided for free. But this is not the case with godaddy.

Even my domain is from name.com
JimBob says on May 7, 2008

GODADDY sucks. There website is a mess of clutter and upselling not to mention brutally slow. Also, no 1800 support number WTF. Godaddy sucks period..
Jorge says on May 8, 2008

I use godaddy for all domains except .es

Godaddy are cheap and have a good mail support.
Sapphire says on May 8, 2008

I've had serious problems with GoDaddy, and I'm not alone. This post sums it up:

http://bluemushrooms.com/godaddy-complaintsgodaddy-complaints

I won't do business with someone who engages in behavior that questionable just to keep a buck.

I LOVE NAMECHEAP. They're all I use now. I don't buy hundreds of domains, so a max cost of $9.29 (you can always find coupons, though) with privacy included is absolutely fine with me. And their cpanel is WAY easier than GoDaddy's, their support is very fast and helpful and above the call of duty (on those rare occasions I've needed it).
Kevin says on May 9, 2008

Name.com is not only cheaper than GoDaddy (even after GoDaddy coupons, you don't need any coupons for Name.com), but they also have free whois privacy.
