The fun video in this post was made to let you know about a philosophy I've been sticking to the past month and has been working great for me (4-1-08 was my best profit day EVER for me ;).
Instead of playing with blogs, and optimization, and stumbleupon, and digg, and forums, and commenting, and networking, and twitter, and videos, and seo, and yadda yadda yadda I've been doing focusing on one mantra:
Get Products - Get Customers - Get Commissions
That's all it takes if your goal is to make money online. Of course I enjoy programming and blogging and videos etc. but that hasn't been my priority lately. I still do it, but it comes second to picking a product then finding some customers ;)
Sometimes I think many people, including myself forgets the basics. That's all it takes: go pick a product, find someone that wants to buy it, and collect your commissions.
Nobody Cares How Much Traffic Your Site Gets If They Ain't Buying
If your goal is to make money with a website then it doesn't impress me that you got xxx amount of visitors from stumbleupon yesterday if they didn't buy anything.
It only takes 10 visitors per day to make $250 per day if they each buy something that makes you a $25 commission
Take it for what it's worth but that's what I'm trying to focus on first and then have fun with the rest.
Get Products - Get Customers - Get Commissions

I think we in the make money online sphere tend to forget that there is a world outside our own little niche.
These people have different habits and motivations to us. They're less cynical, less ad-blind, and if you can put yourself in between someone who is looking to buy something, and a business that sells that product, you have a better than even chance to turn a buck.
The key is getting in that position. This is where SEO/marketing come in. It becomes a numbers game (an area where I might slightly disagree with you Mark). The more QUALIFIED visitors you get to your site, the better your chance of someone buying something, and you getting a commission.
Good post Mark! :-)

You have a great point, I used to do that all the time, read, read read, but I am trying to fix that. For example in my blog (FreePSDLogo.com) I provide content that people are looking for and at the same time I show possible customers relevant products that they might buy.
A win win situation

wow, you are so smart, it really took you this long to figure this out? I have an idea for you. Stop blogging until you have something worth saying!

Great point. People are making it a lot harder than it needs to be. On the other hand, the devil of your mantra is definitely in the details. I love the idea of uncomplicating things and focusing on the big objectives. I think you nailed it.

Amen! I've been scratching my head when someone recently accused my blog of catering to a particular niche, having no real traffic, and being of limited worth. I'm thinking "hmm, I made $100 today, how can I double my worthless success?" Next they'll accuse you of not having a sense of humor.

Dude, this is one of the gutsiest and best video blog posts EVER! Reminds me very much of another blog I read called Trizle. Your attitude in trying new things on this blog is awesome.
Keep breaking it down for us, and keep shooting video. You are getting really good at it. Subscribed.

good points.......Just do it
but i'd still say...45n5....don't quite your day job.

@pingo - i don't have a day job thanks to affiliate marketing ;)
@all - certainly traffic/seo/etc are important. However most people seem to be chasing seo, stumbleupon visitors, etc simply for the sake of getting the visitors and for nothing else.
