Want a free link to your blog from the highly respected, high pagerank, and highly trafficked Problogger.net? Me too.

Here are three ways to get a free link from Problogger.net.

1. When Darren asks for links, get off you bum and start writing like there is no tomorrow. Of course make it relevant to his request. Just sitting there is passing up a free link from this awesome website, and we already agreed we don't want to do that.

2. Participate in group writing projects (an example). Problogger occasionally runs group writing projects. Not only will you get a link from problogger.net (multiple times) there are also great prizes you could win also. There aren't many reasons not to get off your bum and participate in the group writing projects.

Another benefit is, because there are so many entries you might not see a huge spike in traffic, however multiple blogs syndicate Darren's list, so you will get steady traffic and backlinks from many more blogs.

3. Write good content and then promote it! This is highly influenced by GrayWolf, Darren himself, and copyblogger (to link just a few sources on writing good content). And then promote it, email bloggers that are "outlink friendly", like Problogger, and let them know you exist and have great content their readers might like.

Why am I qualified to write on the topic?

I've gotten a link from problogger.com on a group writing project.

I've gotten a link from Problogger.com from writing good content and then promoting it.

And finally I'm writing this post because Darren asked for links to articles his readers would like to read (and even though I missed the cut off time, darn timezones, hopefully he'll find it interesting enough to link to)

However I'm not really "qualified", lol, this is just a conversation starter. Does anybody else have any great ways to get a free link from Problogger.net or other promotion techniques they love and want to share?

edit:In my haste to write the article quickly I originally called the website problogger.com. The real great site is Problogger.net. My apologies (my next post might be called "how not to get a free link from problogger.net"), lol.

thanks - nice post :-)

the irony is that each week I see someone tell me how I never link to sites that are not A-listers.... go figure :-)

lol, funny stuff. Just point them to this post the next time you get somebody accusing you of not linking to non a-listers ;-) I named 3 ways you do, and I probably missed a few.

Thanks for stopping by!

Congrats, nice post. I read problogger everyday and it is nice to see Darren making the rounds of the net. Keep up the great posts. I am also enjoying the videos!

I'd also like to ad write great content that people want to read, solves a problem (maybe even one they didn't know they had) it makes it more viral and easier to promote. For example instead of "Garden Improvement Tips" why not "How to To Fertilize Your Garden and Grow Huge Vegetables", instead of "General Lawn Care Tips" try "5 Ways to Fix Your Lawn and Make Your Neighbors Green With Envy"

Shobber,

Nice site (I'm in Georgetown, ky). Glad you like the videos.

Graywolf,

"write great content that people want to read", good stuff,

sometimes I forget because I've always taken this to be "my blog" that I lean the scale in favor of catering to myself. I've been trying to move the scale more towards the readers lately. I'm sure there is a balance to be found between writing for your readers and writing for yourself.

Thanks for the tips and he@dline examples.

Nice post, thing is it is largly luck of the draw. Not meaning to bash Darren, I am a regular reader of his blog, but as he browses the blogosphere he is simply more likely to come across more popular blogs - its a circle.

Matt, thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment.

Unfortunately I'd have to disagree with the "luck of the draw" comment.

I mentioned 3 ways to get links from Problogger and I've gotten three links from Problogger now with each method. Luck was not a factor in any of them.

Getting the link requires Work, and only sometimes luck. And you certainly can't just sit there and "hope" he "lucks" onto your site (he's got over 10,000 blog subscribers, I'm guessing most of them have blogs too).

Good post, excellent focus. Nice to drop in here - via Darren of course!

I'm getting the sense that the pond you are all splashing in is the 'make money from blogging' pond. Now, I do want to make money from blogging, but it is for a non-profit. My blog is about the non-profit, not about making money from blogging.

So, I can use this pond, and the 'non-profit' pond as guides, but my key audience is somewhere else. I'm sniffing around trying to find the 'want to give money to a school in Africa' pond.

Any thoughts on finding the audience (right audience, bigger audience, etc) for this kind of blog?

Thanks,
Gillian
