contentminisite.jpgSo you've got some content; maybe you wrote it yourself, got it from public domain, paid for it, it's affiliate content, or got it from planet mars, either way you've got some content.

Now you want to build a mini website with this content in the shortest time possible. The following video is the perfect tutorial for you on how to build the site in a very short amount of time:

You will need a modern day server that runs PHP 5 and can use .htaccess files (ask you host if you are unsure).

You will need to download 19pages.com software.

Also note that the software does NOT use a database. This is great because your site is extremely portable (in case you ever want to sell it or move it to another server), simply zip up the site and move it.

The final product can be seen here: Bonsai Training

What's that extension you use to submit it to social networking sites?
45n5 () says on August 11, 2007:
I'm using a site called onlywire.com

I talk about it here:

http://www.45n5.com/permalink/submit-to-multiple-social-bookmarking-sites.html
koen () says on August 11, 2007:
You got some hurry talking today ;)

Nice vid/article, going to test the software out on my local webserver, just to see how it works and it's made :)
Keep it going!
45n5 () says on August 11, 2007:
cool enjoy it, I don't scramble the code so you can look at it

which I'd like to scramble the code on some future projects however the 12 solutions I looked at didn't work very well
koen () says on August 11, 2007:
Hmm... yeah, that sucks. I mean, there are much ways to hide the code, but people can always find it back if you don't use encoder applications. Or you have to find a way to run it from a central server, but gash that sucks for bandwidth and stuff.

What projects are you planning, or are they a secret?
marc eilbeck says on August 12, 2007

nice bit of software mark. I think I may test it out.
marc eilbeck says on August 12, 2007

hey mark I get this error when trying to edit the settings.php

Warning: unlink(../config.php) [function.unlink]: Permission denied in /home/freedom/public_html/the-dir.info/admin/settings.php on line 126

Warning: fopen(../config.php) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/freedom/public_html/the-dir.info/admin/settings.php on line 129
can't open file
koen () says on August 12, 2007:
You have to chmod the files and folders so that they are writable by the server :)
45n5 () says on August 12, 2007:
@marc - what koen said ;-)

@koen - thanks for helping out with the code question. to your previous question above, I don't have any specific project planned, I just thought when I released something for free maybe I could show my affiliate id one time in x times, then hide the code so it couldn't be removed. just one thought.
koen () says on August 12, 2007:
Well, you could have a javascript on your server, displaying that affiliate link. In your PHP script you have a special code scrambled all over the files to include that javascript. Making it difficult to find where it is. Because the actual affiliate link is on your site (say it was amazon), they couldn't simply search for Amazon in their scripts.
45n5 () says on August 12, 2007:
@koen - hmmm, very interesting, however if my server was ever down it would probably break there site.
koen () says on August 12, 2007:
No, it just won't load the javascript ;) No problem at all. At least, except for if a site crashes if that script isn't found.

Right :) ?

I will expiriment with the 19pages script and tell you the results :)
45n5 () says on August 12, 2007:
@koen - yeah if my server goes completely down, it's like when mybloglog is going slow it locks up most poeples sidebar from loading
marc eilbeck says on August 12, 2007

yeah got it sorted now thanks koen :)
marc eilbeck says on August 12, 2007

I've used the software to make a list of free web directories http://www.the-dir.info/ :)
koen () says on August 12, 2007:
Marc, nice job. However, on "The list" page, you should provide a way to contact you, to add a directory. Like a mail link, or form.
marc eilbeck says on August 12, 2007

ok thanks for the tip
beachbum () says on August 12, 2007:
Hey Mark,

Awesome software - thanks for making it available!

I've loaded several articles into a page. The page loads fine but when I click on any of the article links I get a "not found" error. This happens for all of the page (except for the main page). What have I done wrong?

Thanks!
koen () says on August 12, 2007:
As far as I know, there can be 2 reasons. 1) .htaccess is not correctly setup (it requires the mod_rewrite extension of apache). 2) you haven't placed the script in the root.
45n5 () says on August 12, 2007:
hey beachbum, cool photo, makes me start day dreaming ;-)

.., what koen said, he nailed it.

email your host and ask about .htaccess, seems lame they wouldn't allow it.

@koen - what would you do with 19pages if I opened it up under creative commons? maybe a good forum post idea.
beachbum () says on August 12, 2007:
koen and Mark,
Thanks!! I'm using a mac and never saw the .htaccess file because the system treats it as a hidden file. Even when I did a select all to ftp the files it didn't get ftp'd - until I turned on the hidden files. Now everything works great.
Thanks for your help!!
Franklin says on August 13, 2007

Hey I tried to download the program, but it never seems to install somehow. I did it just like I always do any program, but after the files are decompressed, it just shows a windows thing with all the files in the program appearing. How do I get it to work?

I can't find a start file anywhere. What am I doing wrong? I would love to try this. I am sure I am tired and just not seeing it or something, so thanks.

Franklin
koen () says on August 13, 2007:
You have to place it into the root, and make sure the media folder is writale, and the config file.
45n5 () says on August 14, 2007:
@franklin - like koen said, also you need an apache server running php, basic stuff to run sites like wordpress

there is no start file, index.php should automatically run if your server is set up correctly

Egonitron says on November 3, 2007

Mark, I only just saw this software. What a great job you did, very good. However the only problem I see with it is that to add something like an adsense block or affiliate links, you have to go in and manunally create each thing. You can't have something like aLinks for Wordpress to automatically link out to affiliates each time that keyword is given, right? Will you ever develop any plugins like that for this? You could even sell it if you did some stuff like that.
Fred @ Newest on the Net says on November 3, 2007

Mark, does Wikipedia have an open license to allow you to use their content? Otherwise, be careful of copyright violations.
45n5 () says on November 3, 2007:
@fred

"The license Wikipedia uses grants free access to our content in the same sense as free software is licensed freely. This principle is known as copyleft. That is to say, Wikipedia content can be copied, modified, and redistributed so long as the new version grants the same freedoms to others and acknowledges the authors of the Wikipedia article used (a direct link back to the article satisfies our author credit requirement). Wikipedia articles therefore will remain free forever and can be used by anybody subject to certain restrictions, most of which serve to ensure that freedom."

Fred @ Newest on the Net says on November 3, 2007

Mark,

Thank you so much for providing the license language!!

Mark,
Excellent information.
Just one question:
Why are you not getting penalized by GoogleBot for the scraped Wikipedia content?
when i search for "bonsai" you come up 2nd or 3rd, very impressive!

Mac () says on December 1, 2007:
I'm really thinking about clicking on that banner for BANS (have hear of it for a while now) but I'm looking for comments and actual users feedback. Got any Mark?

I'm really interested in building 10 to 20 niche sites in the next few days (ebay types like BANS creates)

- Are the pages it creates really SEO ?
- How much work are they really to set up?
- What kind of marketing do you need to do to get traffic?
- What is the income of a new niche site like, every month?

Thanks Mark, I'm getting really close to getting this started. If I don't get BANS, I'l do this all by myself but I'm thinking that having this program create it all for me a lot easier and I'd spend my time on marketing instead... your thoughts

Thanks?
45n5 () says on December 1, 2007:
@mac - I would try my ebay amazon youtube mashup script.

I would use BANS if you are more technically challenged.

how do you get traffic? lol, the million dollar question.

pat recently had some luck

http://www.patbdoyle.com/?p=164
45n5 () says on December 1, 2007:
@mac - I would recommend my scripts if you are on a tight budget and have some time to tinker with them yourself (i provide little to know help, hey, I'm giving the stuff out for free ;)

so actually i would also recommend BANS if you want support and additional templates.
Mac () says on December 2, 2007:
Thanks Mark, I still haven't decided - I know these are hard questions to answer. I was basically looking for a builder (bans type) that doesn't need me to code much and has many different templates. Also, I need it to be SEOd and auto-updatable so I don't need to work on it every single day week or month.. i.e. put up a store front, add rolling inventory (ebay, amazon etc) and some form of self generating content.. am I making sense?

Believe me I'm not asking for a quick scheme.. I just know there is a way to build hundreds of these things that can generate a few bucks here and there every day (I'm looking for the big picture and not focusing and stressing about one site at a time)

As you know, I run multiple sites and I don't want to be updating 200 sites every day - ouch! Just writing on a handful is good enough for me - that's why i need the rest of the bunch to work for me.

Thanks Mark, you're a great help.

Sharan says on December 22, 2007

Mark,

I appreciate the script and the videos you have made. I have a home page set up but I have run into a couple of problems.

When I try to change themes it gives me a couple of warning messages at the top of the "update success" page and the theme changes. The main problem I'm having is I cannot add any pages. When I try to add a page this is the message I get :
Warning: fopen(../articles/snowboard_accessories_you_will_need.dat) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/sportsn/public_html/snowboarding/admin/add.php on line 99 can't open file

Do you have any suggestions I can try? I have CHMOD the files and folders to writeable, so I think the problem must be something else?

I would like to use the script for several niches I have in mind but I'm stuck.

Thanks,
Sharan
45n5 () says on January 2, 2008:
@sharan - sorry for the delayed response. chmod the "articles" folder to 777 or around there and you should be in business.
steevacy () says on January 10, 2008:
Hey I saw someone above s having the same problem im having now. I make new articles, but I get 'Not Found' errors. I unzipped everything into the public_html folder and cant figure it out. thanks!

Mark - Any idea what this means on the Onlywire site? - "You also agree to automatically have OnlyWire bookmark up to three Sponsor sites with the bookmarking services you subscribe to."
45n5 () says on January 15, 2008:
@Mark from Bloglyne - I haven't used onlywire in awhile and would for sure look elsewhere if they say "You also agree to automatically have OnlyWire bookmark up to three Sponsor sites" now

This is really cool. The Bonsai traing website ranks high for 'bonsai training' on Google.
Delords says on January 16, 2008

Hi, greatly blessed by your site, 45n5 is a serious eye opener.
I just want to ask if I can get the codes to show bids and prices instead of just links.

Thanks

That is some neat stuff. I think I might just try one of those minisites.
