Meme Tracking For Internet Marketers - Spread Your Ideas Through The Paths Of Least Resistance

Do you think it would help the spread of your own ideas if you could see exactly where and how previously similar ideas successfully spread?

With group platform I originally mentioned I would provide "niche intelligence" to the bloggers. I haven't mentioned it since because I thought I might make some of the data public for each niche (still undecided but probably at 45n5), kinda like word clouds, link clouds, or info like the The Top 20 Words Used In Make Money Online Blogger's Titles. I might introduce this stuff publicly later (for groupplatform niches). BUT, I think there is still room to help some blogger's that are passionate and want to spread their ideas in a niche with a little intelligent leverage beyond a basic word cloud.

What is Meme Tracking?

Memes are a fancy word for ideas and their survival. You hope your memes spread and survive, at least if you want to be a successful marketer. Knowing HOW memes spread specific to your niche can be powerful stuff.

Meme tracking is the noting of how memes spread and using the knowledge to aid the survival and spreading of your own memes.

Give Us A Real World Examples Please

Widgetbucks recently launched their make money online widget to great viral success. If you were also going to launch a make money online widget or service wouldn't the data from how their idea(meme) spread help you along on your journey? YES IT WOULD!

* Couldn't you then pitch your widget to people who wrote about Widgetbucks and have a higher success rate than picking people randomly to pitch it to? You already know they would probably be interested.

* Couldn't you see who the early adopters were and late adopters were and plan your marketing campaign towards these people accordingly?

* Couldn't you see who didn't write favorably about the previous meme like yours and either avoid pitching your product to them or work extra hard to make sure they like your offering?

Get the idea? Even if you don't act on the knowledge you are still at a much greater competitive advantage than your fellow bloggers.

An Example Of Basic Meme Tracking

But That Has Been Done Already

Before somebody leaves the comment "but nobody will post about the same thing twice." You are correct! But that IS THE GOOD THING, not a bad thing.

Use that knowledge to your advantage to package, spin, or provide an angle that is "new" to the channel and they should consume again. Remember I want to consume tasty new fresh news. I'm hungry for it. So are the bloggers in that previously successful channel. Every time a blogger links out they give you a hint about what they're hungry for, but...

Finding a path of least resistance is no excuse to decrease your creativity or effort level. You still need your A game.

Not Your Daddy's Blogosphere

My dataset is entirely from the Make Money Online Top 100 however anybody can do this simple meme tracking using Technorati's API and apply it to any topic.

So the next time you sit there sulking thinking nobody is reading your "greatest post ever" and IS reading that junk from those other persons blogs, maybe, and just maybe:

They are promoting things much harder than you or using some meme tracking techniques to work much smarter than you!

Then again, maybe they are just lucky ;-)

Nice breakdown for a trend analysis. This could be implemented with a few minor modifications as a step-by-step Internet marketing plan with the notable, "proven" track record.

Yep, you probably could roll it up and make a basic repeatable plan with it. Some of us might be working on something like that already ;-) lol
