I see bunches of advice on you need tons of links and do comment spamming (make it relevant "of course" lol ) or it takes forever to get anything to rank in search engines and do all this nonsense to get a keyword to rank.

Sometimes none of that matters, like when there is little competition, or NO competition for the keyword phrase you are targeting.

But how is that? New Keywords Are Created Every Day

Look in your niche for current events, upcoming events, new product releases, news, press releases, etc. and you will repeatedly run into words that have little to no competition but that people are talking about.

Many times I can even find domains for these keywords that aren't registered yet.

The Usual Tools Give Usual Results

I love the Google Keyword tool, but so does everyone else.

The doom sayers are right sometimes, it is more difficult if you are using the same tool and thoughts as everyone else to try and rank the same keywords as everyone else. So don't do it.

Pay attention to the news (specific to your topic) and you should be able to constantly come up with new products and keywords that are easy to naturally rank for and get free traffic.

Keyword Variations

Even if the big news guys beat you on the quickness to getting your stories written and indexed there is still tons of opportunity to grab long tail phrases for new words with variations like keyword "compare, keyword "buy", misspellings of the keywords, time based keywords like 2008 mothers day, etc.

Keep Your Head Up

There are keywords created every day. Don't listen to the people that say ranking "any" keywords is hard, they are just trying to rank the wrong keywords ;)

One useful way is to keep up with the hot shots in your niche. I got the "future internet" and "Web 2.0" keywords about the same time O'Reilly's term started circulating the web. The keywords turned out to be quite profitable nowadays. So I think one shouldn't be afraid to predict or even coin terms of his own. Who knows?

I agree Mark, Keywords are invented each day. People should also try building less competitive keyword affiliate sites. If a person uses the key words "make money online" or "Internet business" they will rank low in SERP. If you use the keyword phrase "horse tack" or "rose garden" the competition will be far less and the cost of advertising (adwords) will also be less.

Great video Mark, this is a nice tip for me as I think sometimes I forget about new keywords when making a new site.

Mark,

Totally agree with you on this. It has been said that at least 50% of all searches are new ones created every day. So the trick is to try to predict what those searches are going to be in order to get high rankings in google. Some seo doesn't hurt either.
