fishinghook.jpgProduct baiting is the process of finding a good product and building linkbait campaigns, resources, videos, etc. around the product with the goal of upselling the product.

Product Baiting - Lame name sure, but I think the ideas are solid.

The moneylinks have tons of people talking about gaming social bookmarking networks and submitting articles to tons of directories to try and use the directories google juice to rank their own affiliate links (parasite seo). These are short term solutions and do work for a quick buck (sometimes), but certainly they are not techniques to build a business around.

On the other hand, seo takes time, and you don't have money to pay for traffic but want traffic now.. I would recommend to you to GET CREATIVE and try some product baiting. Once again, dumb name, but rock solid concept. Check out this video to see me talking about the concept:

If I understand this correctly, the main purpose of this would be the build your affiliate site and then once you have a high enough traffic rating, remove the links to the affiliate seller and begin selling the product yourself for a higher return? That at least sounds like a sound strategy for my next venture.

This was a hard page to find - your feed permalinks are broken making live bookmarks rather pointless.

@joe - you can keep the affiliate stuff there when you are getting the traffic. it should be 100% relevant to the content

@lord - thanks for the heads up I fixed it

Hi, I think this is a good idea but wish it came with an actual site or two to visit for examples.

It seems that a lot of people would recognize what you're doing as a lead in to an upsell and, perhaps, feeling envious, might not want to link to you because of that.

You'd have to be skilled at burying the upsell, or making it seem as smooth as possible.

You know what I'm saying?

@sam - I mentioned some examples in the video of hooks that would be valuable regardless if there was an upsell or not and won't sen people running.

for example, an app that lets you type in what your having for dinner and returns the wine color to go with that would almost always be valuable to visitors regardless if you are using affiliate links to link to the wines or not.

Do you mean sites like that thousand dollar profit dude? Or the really bad copy sites that are ten pages long, use 5 different fonts and guarantee the product with 100% money back if you don't love it?
:)
