Watch At Veoh (youtube is misbehaving today)
Welcome to another week of showyouradhere.com Monday!
Get a new design and logo with contests
If you can't afford a $2000 layout the next best option is to pay people to compete for your new designs. I did just that this past week and ShowYourAdHere.com has a new look.
Contest for the Design here. Contest for the logo here. And the result:

Also check out SageBlogger's side by side comparison of the old and new layouts.
What About The Advertisers?
You gotta have publishers before you find advertisers, that's why I've been focused on building publisher tools first. Now it's time to have some fun getting some advertisers.
The Problem: Advertisers can't easily find blogs/inventory that matches the ads they'd like to display.
For instance: 45n5.com has a recent visitors widget with an ad that sells for $10 per week or $40 per month. That ad has been UNsold all week. I think with over 19,000 uniques per month and many eyeballs going there that is a good deal and many advertisers would think it's a deal.
However connecting the publisher and advertiser together has always been a bit of a problem area.
The Solution
Provide advertisers with the best tools possible to match their ads to relevant unsold inventory AND get the advertisers using the system.
Best Tools: The marketplace now has a tag cloud to help advertisers drill down. I'd like to add some other options like the ability for advertisers to "shout out" about what type of ad space they are looking for and have bloggers pitch their inventory to them.
However I'm going to wait on upgrading the marketplace until after the next step launches, because you will really WANT advertisers in the system spending money now, so I think you will have some great ideas.
Get Advertisers Using The System Introducing the details for the ShowYourAdHere.com affiliate program. It will be implemented by next Monday.
The ShowYourAdHere.com Affiliate Program
ShowYourAdHere.com pays 10% for every dollar spent by any ADVERTISER that you refer.
That is 10% gross not net, or ShowYourAdHere.com still covers paypal fees. That is not paid just on "profit", it's paid on EVERY dollar spent by an advertiser.
Even if an advertiser makes a $5 ad purchase, you make .50 cents if you referred that advertiser.
If you recommend someone that spends $100 per month you make $10 per month, every month, as long as the advertiser keeps buying ads.
If you recommend bunches of people that spend $10,000 combined per month, you make $1,000 per month. As long as the advertisers keep spending, you keep earning.
It's a very nice finders fee paid to anybody that can refer advertisers to the publishers using the ShowYourAdHere.com website.
Benefits To The Publisher
ShowYourAdHere takes 25% cut from all of your earnings.
This pays for paypal fees (both from the advertiser and payment to you), development of more cool widgets and features, hosted ad server, hosting fees, PLUS a 10% commission to any affiliate that drives dollars into your pocket.
I think for all that you will not find a better advertising solution anywhere.
The hardest part of making money with a blog is finding advertisers, I'm doing my best to solve the problem.
Moving Forward
The affilaite program is not live yet. I have done the coding already but not the reporting or the affiliate agreement.
You will notice already your widgets the link "show your ad here" now carries your affilaite link. You will also be able to direct link to any page on showyouradhere and get the referral.
I'll announce on the blog when the program is live. You will need to agree to the affiliate agreement before you can make any money.
If you haven't signed up yet or tried the ShowYourAdHere.com now is the time.

Whohooo! Now I just need an advertiser for Revenews. Great updates mark. Lets bring some advertisers in.45n5 () says on February 11, 2008:
@vlad - i think revenews is just using the ad server part and raised their prices high like that. not sure though.I reckon that brings up a good point though, should sites be listed in the marketplace if they hide the "show your ad here" text on them?
Thanks for the feedback ;)
Vlad () says on February 11, 2008:
I thought that is where the things where leaning- no "show your ad here" no listing in the marketplace. When I registered my blogs I took it literally "use one word to describe your blog"- which effectively became the tagging system. Is it possible to use two words like let say "real estate"?
45n5 () says on February 11, 2008:
just put them together vlad ;) realestate
"no "show your ad here" no listing in the marketplace."
never gave it much thought but that really makes sense. that also rewards people with more advertising that support the site ;)
Vlad () says on February 11, 2008:
Mark,If you are going to introduce changes in Marketplace. Notify all blog owners. I think not many realize that it is also a mechanism for potential advertisers to by ads via ShowYouAdHere.
45n5 () says on February 11, 2008:
@vlad - sure thing. I'll blog about it later and just updated the FAQhttp://www.showyouradhere.com/docs/faq.php
Vlad () says on February 11, 2008:
It is a good idea to have it on the very top of FAQ. I think your affiliate program is extremely generous. Are you going to provide affiliates with banners? Do you plan to incorporate affiliate referral link into "show your ad here" link?Check my email also.

Again Mark you are an inspiration, where you lead others follow (or nofollow :). It's nice to see you leading by example by getting things done.
Vlad () says on February 12, 2008:
Mark,Just wanted to point out that when adding a new website to the marketplace, the website's owner must NOT INCLUDE the trailing slash after the websites URL.
45n5 () says on February 12, 2008:
@vlad - thanks for the bug reportfixed now, the program automatically removes the trailing slash
what was happening is it was urlencoding the /
now just put whatever you want, the program will make it the format it needs ;)
thanks again. let me know if you see any other oddball stuff, I tried to knock most of it out.
