Many people read these Make Money Online Blogs looking for tips or ideas on how to make money online.
Personally I read them just find like minded people's stories. This post might be considered juicy if you are struggling to make any money online but would like one idea.
The following is a way I think someone could make some money online that could provide a nice little income for someone living in a country with with a lower priced currency. When i say lower income I'm talking maybe $600-$1000US per month.
There can be many variations of this basic idea.
The Basic Idea Of Flipping Minisites
Ever day there are dozens of people that buy websites, many of them very small sites with only a few pages. For instance visit this webmaster forum and look around.
I'm suggesting that you build a minisite, with a cost of $7 and your time, hold onto the site for 90 days until it matures, gets pagerank, and gets a few visitors, and then sell it for a profit.
How Much profit? How Often?
$20-$30 profit per site seems realistic to me. You should receive this from the sale of a site every day.
Simply start building a minisite every day. The first 90 days you won't make a nickel.
However every day after 90 days you should have a domain that has come of age and is ready for selling. And since you started building one minisite per day, you will now have one minisite to sell every day.
Of course, you need to always build one minisite per day, but after you create a system you might be able to do all of them on a Sunday or one day of the week for instance.
Why 90 days?
This is just a guess at a rough guide that the site would have time to gain pagerank, some alexa rank, get a few visitors, and maybe make a sale or two (if you are lucky).
What should the site look like?
That's up to you! Creating a half dozen pages of unique content might be the most time consuming (but create the most value) or you might want to pull an ebay rss feed for your pages or a news feed or whatever you can think of.
The main goal will be doing some promotion to make sure you get in google's index and also gain some pagerank.
Promotions
It doesn't take much to get a minisite indexed. A few backlinks should do it.
Even without the site making a nickel in 90 days it will still be valuable because the site is established. People will pay a premium to buy an established domain instead of starting from scratch.
Of course if the site shows income at the end of 90 days you can charge even higher for it or keep it yourself ;)
I've Tried It A Few Times
I've built and sold about a dozen minisites over the years. Usually I would sell them for $25 to $50 after investing only $7 in the domain.
This wasn't waiting either, it was buying it and selling it almost within 24 hours. However if I were to do it seriously I think it would be much easier to make a profit if the sites had some pagerank and a trickle of traffic already.
That's it. Take the idea and spin it around to work for yourself. It won't make you rich but is a concrete way to make a small internet income, or at least get the wheels spinning.

I created, bought and sold hundreds of sites over the years. It can be a nice little earner however it can get a little boring. There's definately more people doing this nowadays though I still think there's money to be made, if not more money.
Using open source content or media is a good way to populate a site and one which is perfectly legal. At the end of the day, this kind of work can be tedious however many people are willing to pay for someone else creating and building a site with some traffic.
Good post :)

thanks kevin ;) for sure it's tedius, and takes bunches of patience, but could be a good fit for the right person.

What kind of hours are you thinking you can drop in to a single site after you get a process down? If it's more than an hour total, you might be better of dropping that time into an ongoing site or keeping the site and letting it run for a while. Now... if you can get $50, $75, $100... it becomes a better plan in my mind.
I've thought about this before, and if I can come up with an automated way to get a site built with decent content the way I like them built (not these crappy sites), I definitely would give this more than a passing shot. But you'd really have to flip closer to 100 sites a month I think to make this your primary stream of income (100 a month at $75 profit per site, a cool $7.5k).

@Esoomllub - for sure it's not for everyone and would probably take time or equal a low hourly wage doing it as I described.

It's a simple way to to make money but it sound like a bit of an 'opt out' option for people who cant make any real sort of money from their sites.
I really think it would be better for the person to put a little more effort into each site and build up an adsene network which will earn them passive income for years to come. Also selling them like that isn't scalable which is an essential part of any business, after all thats what business is all about - not 'trading hours for dollars' etc.

Instead of selling for $40 or $50 bucks, List them in sitepoint, ebay, craiglist and all the free classifieds with a reserve price you can think of. Say $1000. List 30 of them.
Ebay listing might costs you $4 for reserve price but rest are pretty much free. Even if one of those sells for $500, you make money and keep the rest to your protfolio. The worst thing that can happen to you is you get some traffic to those site.

I did this and I generated some good money, however it takes a lot of work, and honestly people do not want to pay good money for sites, they want them very cheap. In the end I decided to build sites and keep them for my self.

@john, matt, and make money - thanks for the comments
yes it takes work but it's a bonafide way to make money online.
Many people can't figure out how to make money with blogs or holding onto sites, if they could we wouldn't have the majority of people failing at making money online, for them this is an idea ;)
Simply, it's not for everyone, but if you want to work real hard and have some patience then it's a halfway honest way to make some money online.

The only way to make this work is to have some time of automation. Otherwise, I would recommend it only to a high school kid that wants to make some gas money doing mindless work.

when starting a new website do you put on ads like google adsense and affiliate ads straight away or is it best to wait 30-60 days to get established and then put ads on your site, which is the best method?

In Respect to the whole site flipping model, I'm sure if you think a little out of the box you could easily make it quite profitable. For example If I were to do a model that involved selling sites I would focus on one main blog (that I would not sell) and get a good readership on it. Once I have decent amount of traffic and readers on my main blog I would use it to launch other blogs within the niche and then sell those blogs off. In one month I got 97 RSS Readers (at it's peak) for my blog. So I could even use a blog of this size to launch other blogs, get a few extra readers and increase the market value rather quickly. I'm not actually doing that as I'm in other ventures right now but it is how I would approach the whole site selling thing.

I LIKE IT. Too often we hear make $1,000's a month. I think it helps many new bloggers to talk do-able amounts. Many struggling blog start-ups would be excited to make $400 every month. ... They already have a job. They have extra time. They want to do it "their way." ... Your example is way to jump-in, flounder a bit and learn from real life experience.
