I've purchased a domain before that took FOREVER, and a few emails to google, to get in googles index and I had concluded (or had a superstition) that the reason google wouldn't stop by was because the previous owner had done bad things with the site.
I checked archive.org, and while I didn't see anything bad, I knew for sure that the domain had been previously owned.
I swore then to never purchase a domain with an archive.org record.
Time passed and I've broken the rule a few times. At the end of December I purchased a domain, registered it for 5 years, and because I'm lazy sometimes I didn't even check the archive.org history. Well, the domain had a history there.
Nothing shows up bad, but it's been just over three weeks now since I've put a few very nice links to the site and my log files don't even show the googlebot coming by to sniff the robots.txt file.
I'm not giving this domain any more time, I switched the content to another site and I'm going back to my rule, never buy a domain with archive.org history unless your willing to take on added risk.
Anybody else with similar experiences?

I bought eatndrink.net to replace another domain, had a better ring to it. Didn't realise it had been used before until I check something on DNS Stuff one day and saw a thumbnail that definitely wasn't my site! After a check in archive.org I found the old (horrible!!) site.
Not had any issues with SEs however I did set the old domain to 301 to the new one. The PR has returned after the recent update too.
Have you got a Google Sitemaps account? If so, add the domain and verify it in there and then you may find out in one of the sections why it's not indexed. I think there's the reinclusion request form in there too.
I have a domain banned by Google, however even after the banning Googlebot still visited (haven't a clue why!).
I actually thought about using google wemaster central as a last resort and than thought to myself "do I really want a banned domain associated with my good domains?"
Probably just paranoid.
Also, I'd spent quite a bit of time programming and building this site so i want the best "kickoff" it can have.
I'll keep the idea in mind however for the next time. Thanks Sarah.
From what I've read, Google can see the history on the domain ie. the hosting IP and the previous owner of the domain when/if it was banned. A request coming from you, a different person on a different IP in theory should wipe the slate clean.
Alternatively set up a second Google account ;)
