Watch This Video At 45n5.com

I get random video questions and thought I would share some answers here. If there is something you want to know about doing videos ask away or shoot me an email.

Does making videos take your entire day?

Today's video took about 5 minutes to shoot and 15 minutes to edit.

The average time is probably 10 minutes to shoot and 20 minutes to edit.

No, video doesn't take much time. When I started it did but I'm getting much better now.

I also don't script 99% of my videos so that really helps.

Why do you put the logo in the top of your videos now?

Video sites started running the ads on the bottom and covered the logo so I moved it to the top.

How do you edit your videos?

The software I use is Sony Vegas. However both the mac and pc come with free versions of video editing software.

Sony vegas costs from $90 - $500 depending on the version you use. I have an older version of the pro edition.

How do you do the green screen?

I bought a $50 green screen from http://www.tubetape.com/ then I import the video into Sony Vegas and use the effects called color correcter saturate greens to bring out the green colors then use an effect called chroma keyer to remove the greens.

How do you make the video choppy or real fast editing?

Basically you just stretch out the video in the editor and anyplace where there is a slight pause or a pause to think you cut and delete that section.

I started doing this because of the enormous amount of uh's I say when i speak and because if I took more time in between thoughts the videos were a bit better imo.

What video host do you recommend?

All of them ;) I would never go with one video upload place. Blip.tv kicked me off their entire system only because they thought I was "too commercial".

Besides there is no need to pick one. My favorite tool is tubemogul.com. They don't upload to every site but they give you a dozen to choose from, and provide you cool stats.

Should I Do Videos?

Of course! More and more content that is getting consumed on the internet is video.

Video takes awhile to learn and get a "voice" and learn to edit and learn to do and build an audience, etc.

The longer you take to do start doing video the farther you fall behind the pack.

You don't need to put your face in the video either. Do a screencast. Do site reviews or tutorials with the camera turned away from you.

I think you are missing the boat by not experimenting with video and starting to learn.

I have thought about adding some videos but I don't want to look stupid. I'm seriously thinking about starting vlog on my weightloss. I know I can make money with that as well and airing in front of people will keep me motivated, I think:)

I freeze up both in front of and behind the camera. I've recorded a few without voiceovers, but I really need to have a few beers and go for it. I've got a ton of things I need to show off and video's exactly the way to do it.

I am making more money now on ads in videos than google adsense .

I am going to drop goolge adsense. Best of all, was approached by advertisers to be their beta testers and my sites will be their promo.
Whopeeeeeeeeeeeee

Interesting stuff Mark.

I've thought about doing Vlogging a couple times, maybe just once as it would be a different things for my readers to see - be a lot more personal too, I think.

Too bad I'm too lazy to get a decent camera, eh. :D Have you ever tried Windows Movie Maker for editing, or is that rubbish?

Your post certainly convinced me about the ease of it and I'm more likely to do so now. We'll see though, I guess.

movie maker works "good enough"

beers help with the nerves but can also get you in trouble if you have too many and are near the computer, i don't drink them

video is fun - go for it ;)

thanks all for the thoughts.

Thanks for the tip on where to get a green screen.

Just went and ordered one, so I can add a dimension to my vids.
