You want to make money online. You can't do much else technically other than start a blog. What type of blog should you start that will make you the most money?

My vote is start a product blog.

Personally I've never had any luck with starting a blog and then trying to add the products later. However I have had success with sites that start with the products as the focus.

Most bloggers that make money with affiliate marketing will make their money by earning a commission on product sales.

If the #1 goal of you blog is to make money, I think it's in your best interest to put the products first.

Of course, if the products or topic is something you are interested in and can make interesting then you are much better off.

Here is a good example of a product blog - ShoeBlog.

What do you think? What Is The Best Type Of Blog To Start To Make Money Online?

I never thought about that but it does make sense becuse since you are talking only about one product that means you are also selling that one product but it can also limit you.

Product blog is interesting on it's own. Personally I am more fond of resource/info blog.

I think it really all depends on the person. Your idea is a good one as long as the individual either has established knowledge in the products niche or can write about it very well.

Anyone can write about anything and make a little extra money, but if they want that blog to go viral (where the real money is) they need to have alot of knowledge and/or something very unique to offer.

Agreed. Most n00b and unskilled bloggers will go for AdSense, and ads about things are more effective, simply because people buy and sell things (duh).

Pick something that gives you a whole family of related products, though, so you don't get bored and so your blog isn't boring. Don't go the for the lame ultra-micro-niche like you said earlier, Mark. Even if you're just a n00b you can still think bigger.

Inject as much personality into it as you can. Videos would rock, because you can show the products.

I agree with Michael - stay as far away from the micro-niche as you can... That is what I tried to do in my first few blogs and I kept running out of stuff to write about.

I think whatever type of blog you write, you have got to be passionate about the subject or subjects which you write about. If not, you will lose interest over the long haul. I view these things as 2 to 3 year projects in order to start making a decent amount of money, so, make sure whatever it is that you have some passion for the subjects and that will play through to your subscribers.

thanks all, great comments.

however I'm surprised there weren't more, lol

I reckon not many people have any thoughts on what types of blogs to start if you want to make money online?

Great post.

A few thoughts...

If you have your own product you will make far more money than selling an affiliate product, though starting out with affiliate products at least gets you going.

I have sold both "hard goods" and digital downloads and I've got to tell you: Digital downloads are the way to go. I quit selling hard goods in 2003 and it makes all the difference in the world.

Membership sites make far more money than single product sales. You can create a niche based membership site pretty easily with "premium content" in addition to your blog.

My two cents.

Good video post. I'd be reluctant like Aaron to start a blog that sold physical products that you ship out to someone, but one where you talk about a certain product and then actually did some info ebooks etc I think would be much more easier to scale up.

I think a product blog is a great idea. If you like technology and gadgets, then write about the latest cellphones coming out. Write about how to use your cellphone, etc.

Then get some affiliate banners up regarding that, so maybe there's a site that sells new and cool cellphones - given they have an affiliate program. Maybe do the ebay affiliate program and link to cool auctions, etc. You could even throw together a price checker if you're skilled and have it compare prices of phones across different vendors and sign up to their affiliate programs.

The possibilities are endless, just don't start another 'Make Money Online' blog, please.

If you are starting out, do no, I repeat, DO NOT start off with a 'Make Money Online' blog.

Your idea is spot on...

I have been researching and "bookmarking" my toward the possibility of creating a blog dedicated to new products from around the world and within the US.

Finding affiliate programs and making money from all the products I feature could create a problem.

But, other advertising and money making CPA offers can be added besides affiliates..

When said blog will ever get done is another thing (LOL!). I am sort of stuck on design elements.

I want the blog to be uniform in terms of navigation, without a crowded appearance.

I guess that can't happen if you are going to feature multiple products.

What is exciting about a blog like this, (as you have mentioned) is that the product is the content.

And the supply of that content is seemingly endless. The long tail keyword possibilities, lion, tigers, bears, oh my..

Excellent suggestion...
