Watch this video at Youtube
Here's a real easy question for you. Why don't you do video?
I'm not talking about a video every day, but rather, why not even a single video on your about page?
The real strange thing to me is that many of you DO have still pictures of yourselves on your blogs but you won't put a moving picture of yourself on your blog? Why Not?
If you do do video leave your url in the comments below. If you don't do video tell us why not. Remember, we aren't interested in you doing video every day, why not even a single "about me" video?

Cuz I'm running multiple multi thousand dollar a month businesses online and dont have time.
I know crappy answer, but I once went over this with my readers and most of them preferred step by step printable posts. I once made the mistake of explaining a method on video and got butchered with emails, PM's and IM's asking if I would write it all out. Time wasted.
I could take you up on the putting a video up at least on the about page. Seems like a good idea. But then again, there are some of us who really do not rely on our blogging. We blog just because we want to. If someone listens, that's a bonus. Personally, I dont really care about what someone thinks of me. I got a blog and forum full of readers who have made money from methods I have posted. Dont really think they care to much to see me talk about making money as opposed to writing out exactly how to do it.

@ruck - so you've got "multiple multi thousand dollar a month businesses online" and I've seen videos of you already ;)You've got the best of both worlds over there. Even though you don't do them often, you will do video if the situation works. Wondering why the others won't hit record, ever.
Thanks for the feedback.

Yea man,
I did videos for awhile and still have my Youtube and Break accounts but I guess I went at it the wrong way. After reading your post again I think if I did video over some of my general ramblings and then wrote out tactics and ideas then maybe the blog could be a little interesting.
Hmm, now you got me thinking. I've debated for a long time now whether to shut mine down or not as I do it for fun (with occassional affiliate links) but now that it's getting decent traffic I'm looking to make it a little interesting.
Thanks for the tips man, they're always appreciated.
Best Ruck

I was going to start doing videos a little while ago. But when I asked my readers if I should, they all told me they got annoyed by videos and not to do it. So I haven't.
45n5 () says on January 24, 2008:
@ruck - if you are staying legit and just want to generate traffic for cashtactics with your video I would check out tubemogul.com they upload your vids everywhere and give statshowever they do look at a bunch of the videos so I would use the service for anything "spammy"
@thomas - your readers voted not even one video, ever? not even on an about page? They are some hard core video haters ;)

I love video, but I'm a horrible speaker! I know you don't have to be a pro speaker, but seriously, you're better off reading my words ;)Ok, I'm not "Larry the Cable Guy," but I honestly think it would detract from the value of my blog.
I have alot of strengths, but techie stuff and speaking aren't on the list!
Plus, I'm a bum these days. I shave about once a week and wear more food than I eat :)
Ruck says on January 24, 2008
Cool thanks Mark. I would definately use em legitly. I use Video Post Robot for some of my more aggressive things.
Josh,
that's hilarious man. I'm terrible too, but I think if your speaking and the reputation you have already it wont matter a bit.
I might give you some shit about the beard though. I recently jsut shaved my monstrous goatee. I look like
a little school boy now. Did wonders for my youth :)

Well, I'm going to go ahead and be unpopular here, but I just don't watch them. I don't watch them on other sites - it's just hard sitting through hundreds of crappy videos. I say hundreds - I've got a big RSS list. So if everyone did that, I'd feel like I was losing time sitting and watching, when I could just as well skim what's there. Of course I could listen as I surf, but I'm more a visual person I guess.
I don't particular care for video. It's cool, but 99% of the time I don't watch them (especially, and unfortunately in this niche).
45n5 () says on January 24, 2008:
@empress - that's not unpopular, I see bunches of people that don't like video.but not even one video the entire life of the blog so people can see who the blogger is? Just once?
I wasn't saying people should switch to all video or anything.
And for me, the more video the better ;) I really wish more people would do video/audio.
@josh - that's what effects are for, just go black and white and slight blur when you've got too much food on your shirt

Why don't I video blog? Because I don't own a video camera, haha. Doesn't get much simpler than that.

My thoughts on video blogging:
http://www.jccommerce.com/2007/07/23/i-really-hate-non-text-blogging/
Of course I'll never have 1000 subscribers either, so take it with a grain of salt, its just a pet peeve of mine.
45n5 () says on January 24, 2008:
@$1000 - good answer@chance - it's not about having bunches of subscribers or big stats. it's about getting to see who in the world you are reading.
I'm not suggesting people go all video, but not even one simple video so your readers can see who you are?
Not even one and that's it for the lifetime of a blog? Just so we can get a glimpse and a feel. Not one single video?
What is everybody trying to hide? One video is all I ask.
;)

Videos are on my list of things to start doing. But it's all I can do to get a regular post up every 2 days, and video seems like extra time and effort. I'll get to it one of these days though.Nancy P Redford says on January 25, 2008
***2 Good Reasons Not to Appear in a Video.***
1. My boobs are TOO big!
2. I'm in the Witness Protection Program!
3. I've lost my Make-up Bag!
WHOOPS that's 3 reasons. You do the math!! LOL
No really why look and feel awkward in a video for all to see. Besides you can always include an avatar caricature or even add an audio message instead.
Mark do you feel at a loss if you don't see a webmaster/blogger?
Just my two cents...
Bud says on January 25, 2008
Because I don't want to hurt people with my ugly face....lol just joking.
Honestly I don't have a good reason. I have thought about it but I don't see the benefits for my site. Maybe as time goes on I will change my mind but for now no video for me.

I am just too handsome and I don't have the time to answer all the emails from womens out there.Just kidding.
I never watch videos. Why? Because I rather scan text content for important information. This way I know if an article has interesting information within a few seconds.
Second, I do a lot of SEO so I rather rely on keywords.
But really, I am just too sexy for my blog, too sexy for my blog, too sexy it hurts...!
Mike Panic says on January 25, 2008
A lot of reasons, one is that I don't like my face on the internet.
Main reason - I read most of the blogs in my RSS reader at work. At work, I have no speakers, co-workers that can drop by whenever and boses who swing by from time to time. Watching a 5 minute video blog just doesn't fit in to my work schedule.
Worst of all - I can't quote the content in a blog posting of my own or print it out for later use by myself.

@chad - look forward to the video, I probably would't recognize you at the moment if I bumped into you@nancy - "Mark do you feel at a loss if you don't see a webmaster/blogger?"
not someone new, but if I'm going to follow someones blog year after year it would be nice to see who the person is.
@bud - it would benefit your site about as much as your about page would. It shows people who you are or "about" you.
@thewebhostinghero - youtube videos rock for seo
@Mike Panic - "I don't like my face on the internet." can't argue with that ;)

Saw Frontline last nite about Kids on the internet?
Go watch and you know why videos are impt.
You old farts--- your eyes will be tired of reading the same old words....but not videos with blogs.
Mark from Bloglyne says on January 27, 2008
I don't do video because it is a lot of work. I spend on average a couple of hours on a post, to proofread, upload images, make sure the links are working, formatting, blah blah blah... then when you add a video to that, where you have to basically duplicate the work... there is editing the video, creating the template for it, I shake at the thought of more work... if somebody could show me that it is easy and not added work, I may be up for it, but that would be after the months of content work I have to do, commenting on blogs and social networks to get my regular stuff out there, figuring out how to get this dang database to work the way I wish it would, figuring out how to pay the electric bill, running my brick and mortar business... *phew*
... er ... that is why I don't video blog... yet...
Zac Johnson says on January 28, 2008
I will probably start video blogging soon. Give me ideas on what you want to see and what other video bloggers aren't doing, that you wish they were.
