45n5 Disclaimer: You Will NOT Make Money Online
Yes we can all play the game of making money online and maybe pay for a dinner each month with our earnings, however to pay your mortgage or better each month with online earnings, or REALLY make money online, the odds are stacked against you. In fact the odds say You Will NOT Make Money Online. And I say You Will NOT Make Money Online. Watch the following video for the full story and leave your thoughts below.

This post was made for the 99% of people that don't know me or my philosophies online about making money and it's also my "disclaimer" to those to the path to making money reading the posts here.
Just keeping it real ;-)
Hey, excellent points dude. Too many people think that just because they copy verbatim what someone else is doing they're automatically going to make it. It just ain't gonna happen. -- Keepin it real!
and thanks Mark for your public service announcement! Kudos to you, you speak out on your opinions whether its a popular belief or not. I don't agree with quite a few comments you put on your blog. I know and I realize it's your blog and your entitled to your opinion. But, I have to hand it to you - you're a straight shooter, no grey area with you. How can I criticize that? Keep it up, Mark!
On a side note, thanks for contributing time and knowledge to help neophyte internet marketers, myself included. You publish good info and I will continue to observe your adventures.

Hey Mark. Good video.
I'm still going to try to make money online, but I know it's not going to be thousands a month unless I hit that big break after years of work. I have the luxury of being able to stay at home with my son while my husband's income pays the bills. All I want is to help out a little. If I can make extra that pays down a credit card or can get put into savings to grow, then I'm accomplishing something and contributing to our finances, not just sitting on my butt watching TV all day. I know I couldn't do it to pay the rent, like you said. It's good to earn a litte extra something online until I figure out what I want to do when I grow up. Thanks for the honesty, and I wish you all the best.
Very true all the thing you said.
This disclaimer might be stimulating for a lot of people.
It was for me.
I will try to put some video like yours and some recording.
Thanks for the great advice!

As for the subject, patience and hard work is definitely needed. Not sure about the crazy aspect, but hey, if it makes money then that's cool :o)
For this main reason I rant out loud that things should not be taken literaly as they are presented to public..
That`s for I rant against "make money while you sleep, is a no brainer .."
Just I`m far more optimistic than you and I do not agree you 99% failure.
Is 95%.
Same as in real life, basicaly because construction, publishing, food-for-pet production, internet or retail shop, still humans are managers ..
Ok. I'm convinced. I'll give up trying to make money online. :)
@valentin - 95% is way to nice, I think the competition is much tougher than that ;-) Even still at 95% it still validates my points I think.
@sarahG - It may be because the videos still make me a bit nervous? Or maybe because I take a thirty minute walk before I do some of the videos. Not sure, i live in kentucky and the stereotype is we talk slower and with a drawl here, go figure.
Wow, Mark, at first I thought you were serious! Then I realized you are just being your goofy self. What is this, reverse psychology? So that we will prove that we are part of the 1% who makes it?
Anyway, I love your blog because there's always something new and fun on it!
Haha, nice attempt to weed out the competition ;)
Darn it your making me comment again. I was worried at first and thought you were making a personal message for me.
Anywho does this mean you won't be releasing a make money online ebook :)
Nice one Mark. You've nailed it. If you work hard it takes at least a year to get "traction" and then some. by the way my video blogging day are almost here, my camera is on the way. :)
Keep it nervous, keep it fast. That's the good way ^_^
Not sure that you need to be nutty and crazy, although that does help to get attention. You also need a good idea, a plan, some vision and the dedication, perseverance and downright stubborness to make it happen no matter how many people tell you you won't make money online. Yep it's true folks, sorry to say...99% of people do not have the necessary qualities to make serious money online. Maybe you have seen a dozen bloggers who are making thousands a month, but how many blogs are there out there? Do you take notice of the tens of thousands who are not making money? Of course not.
That being said, it's still fun to try :>)
How pathetic is that???? Telling people you can't me money online. The possibilities of the internet are infinite and so are you chances of striking it rich. The biggest mistake you can make is underestimate the power of the internet.
Biggest mistake is to underestimate how many people are trying to make their full income online, and how many succeed in it. See how many blogs trying to make money there are, and how many that make the actual money. Duh, you can earn a few dollars, maybe a few hundred, or thousand, but the point is, only 1% actually earns his income from it.
Good video. Are you going to be part of that 1% that makes it past 12 months "making money online"? I hope so.
I would say that anyone who has taken the time to view the video and read the ensuing comments are probably never going to be part of that 1% of successful "make money online" group - as these people are ploughing their own furrow with no time for what others are saying...
I would say that it's easy to make money online but hard to make good money online. I consider $50k usd per annum to be "good money".
It has very little, if anything, to do with "luck". Making money online is often predicated on skills, ability to collaborate, scale and think ahead of the curve- sometimes it is sheer perserverance. If you can do these things, and as a college droop out, if I can do it- others can too. You can also do it without going to the "dark side" e.g. running malware, or spamming.
Naturally reading an e-book, or following a blueprint does not ensure success and if it is pushed en masse you can forget about it. I wouldn't write off knowledge because it is in electronic form. If I gain knowledge that allows me to save time, money, etc it is well spent- I buy information in electronic form (an e-book) from time to time- this is vital information for me and information is power. Usually I know the answers or I could find them (not always), and I am often paying for someone else's time in putting it together. Yes most e-book peddlars that promise fast riches are scams or flimflams, but don't assault knowledge because it is packaged in electronic form.
Finding good mentors, publishing one's thoughts, experimenting, networking and yes- even reading a few e-books can save one a lot of time or generate new ideas. (Or try reading some vintage science fiction...) I was fortunate to find great mentors early on, then again- it cost me to play but it was worth it.
Back in 1997 when I made the decision to "go for it" and attacked it full-time (quit my job) and went solo I didn't do so well for three long years- actually I almost starved. Thank goodness for ebay auctions, and my ability to form relationships and find niches. Frankly working ebay allowed me to make "a living" and taught me alot about selling online. Hmmm I long for yesteryear. I really enjoyed selling on ebay, but being in books, I watched as big powerhouses squeezed me out. Maybe one day I will return, I think I could compete with them now. I wouldn't get rich, but might do ok.
Still- ANYONE can make money online- anyone and some of the largest players, say Tim Storm, who I have found to be very ethical and a guy who treats his employees well started the same as I did- a one man shop wide eyed and attending conferences a decade ago. And it took a lot longer than a year.
Then what is "big" money- that is all relative. At one point I would have said 100k a year, then maybe 7 digits....now...not sure what "big money might be". More important to be happy I think everyone will agree. Money does not buy happiness nor health, but once the tap gets going- it goes.
In short- do what you enjoy, what you are passionate about, and get people's attention- this is often accomplished by doing things differently. With some planning, some forethought and perhaps talking to other people who have "been there and done that" it is not that hard. Calculated risk taking. If you are implying the majority of people are lazy- that might be so- but many motivated people lack a well-rounded skill set and should simply partner-up. I learned that quickly. I am surprised more smaller shops do not consolidate- perhaps they do.
However, there is a magical formula a mentor taught me: attention = revenue. It really is that simple. Converting it is the tricky part, and the speed at which you convert that attention is tricky, and just how you measure "revenue" is tricky too.
So to "keep it real"- big things can be done. Often money is a byproduct of doing what you enjoy, but when it rains it pours and sure it is tougher, but anyone can still do big things online. Following "proven tactics" etc- no- probably not. Big money means causing market disruption.

Agree with Gary. Allmost anybody can make some coins on internet, specialy (picture with me pointing the finger to Jack) when use or abuse of "no brainer" schemes.
But I think some like + 20-25 k monthly would be "make good money" - on net, real life or on moon :-P -; 50 k / year is a bit as a 9-5 job (reff to developed economies, with similar amount of salaries), good money to cease working for a real boss :-P but not to be finnancialy independent.
Why I say 95% failure in contradiction with Mark`s 99% :
Because mark point to the "A"
A - 1 become full finnancialy independent - rich.
B - 4 can retire any moment, maintaining them decent life style.
- 95 must keep working to support them life and family.
I point to A + B. I include "middle class" too, which actually mean those with ++ 50 k / year, stil I doubt that in a developed economy 50 k / year would be enough to compete for "B" category ..
Depends on your standard of living!
You also need to bear in mind that it is possible to actually work very little in order to make a good amount. It's all about creating Income Streams and then having them run themselves (eg, person buys a digital product, pay at paypal or wherever, download it - all automated). Have a few hundred such systems and you have the basis of a very good business which takes up very little time and earns good money.
Last year, I worked just about 400 hours (average 8 hours per week), and certainly earned what I consider to be a good income. Having said that, I've been "make money online" since 2003, full time. And before that in a part time basis.
Well, that's it. Off to McDonald's to get a job application.
Mark, thanks for the visit and the link. I edited my post to point out what I meant by "negative." ;).
I have to say this is one of the most interesting post discussions I've seen--not just for the content and discussion per se but what the insights the various points of view offer about the posters.
My point is: making money on the i-net does not mean blogging...its realizing new and innovative ideas and getting them to a mas of people i.e. facebook, youtube, yelp...
Jack, you are completely correct.
This fascination that bloggers make money on the net is completely false, I would say that 0.0001% of bloggers make "good money" just using blog(s).
It's usually other sites that make the bulk of a bloggers income.
Guess What? You're Poor!
I couldn't agree anymore.
I made money online by accident. Not by picking up some crappy piece of writing (aka an e-book.)
You make some really great points in this video Mark. Longevity, taking chances, and dedication are the best way to get ahead in anything, be it blogging or working or whatever.
Just the fact you went out and created a video for this shows you're trying harder than most. Good luck and thanks for sharing your honest opinion with all of us poor people!
I like how you tell it like it is and your not trying to placate everyone that visits your blog. Making money online is no different than being an entrepreneur anywhere else. It takes a lot of hard work.
Mark, this is the first time i visit your web site. and watched this video. you said "You Will NOT Make Money Online" thousand times to my face ;) i need to wash my face and drink a cup of coffee to forget your video :) (just kidding, i liked it, good luck)
You made some really great points in the video. And I would like to be in the 1 percent of those who make money. I having been trying this make money online for some months and I am still doing all the research and study. The thing that I realized is that when you first start on this money making via internet, you will always come across get rich quick schemes first because everyone wants an easy way out. One very important thing that I learnt after some months is that there is no such thing as make money online quickly.
OH NO!
My hopes and dreams :(
j/king. You make a good point bluntly.
I make enough online to live off of, but as you mentioned, time online is important. I've been doing web related projects for going on 10 years now and created/maintain multiple websites. I could squeeze by on $100 daily passive income if I wanted, but I still do consulting because its fun...and a trailer just isn't my cup of tea ;)
I make just few coins blogging.
It is so hard to make money online.
I wonder how long it will take!!!
Hopefully not too late, I spend so much time online, I should get paid millions!! :D
Francesco
I guess if your disclaimer said something along the lines of NOT becoming rich online, then maybe I'd agree. But even you said that you do make money online. People try things sometimes because it's enjoyable. Yes, we may never shoot par in golf, or become a PGA pro, but don't you have fun playing the game. I know I do. So, even if it's a little bit of money, then I'm making money. And I'm enjoying myself doing it. I was told pretty much the same thing at a seminar for self employment. We were told that the majority of us were going to fail. Well I have ran a very successfull business for nearly 15 years now. So it can be done. But I do understand where your coming from. If a person is trying to make money to become rich or even self sufficient, then it probably will not happen. But it sure is fun to try. That's my 2 cents worth. Thanks for the video.

It is so hard to make money online.
