I love youtube so I was glad when I was accepted into their partner program:
YouTube partners are independent video creators and media companies who are looking for online distribution and who meet our qualifications. Becoming a partner gives you the ability to share in ad revenue from your YouTube videos.
The most popular questions asked of me lately have been about how I got in the program, what about the program etc, so I thought I would share.
How to get accepted into the youtube partner program
Apply! That's it. That is the only thing I did and they let me in ;)
Requirements of the youtube partner program
When I got accepted my account had just over 100,000 video views, 4000 channel views, and about 200 subscribers. Clearly it is not necessary to have a mega popular account to get accepted.
Here's what they say is needed:
1. You create original videos suitable for online streaming.
2. You own the copyrights and distribution rights for all audio and video content that you upload -- no exceptions.
3. You regularly upload videos that are viewed by thousands of YouTube users.
Why the youtube partner program?
1. To be cool and be in good with google youtube ;)
2. You get to participate in revenue sharing with youtube. (I don't participate)
3. You can upload videos longer than 10 minutes
4. Extra branding on your video pages (look at this example by the subscribe button)
5. Extra branding on your profile page with more links back to your real site (check my youtube profile and subscribe youtube.com/45n5).
Good Luck Applying To The Partner Program
Not everyone is accepted to the youtube program so I wouldn't submit your brand spanking new account. However after you get some vids and some views good luck with your approval process.

Mark how much longer? As you know my videos are almost full featured films LMAO I would love to move to youtube but I can only use them for really short post.

Mark, you are simply awesome. Biggest thing about videos and blogs is you are so down to earth and practical. You share all the stuff. You well deserve for all the hard work.

sorry mark don't mean to step in your toes but you should let everyone know also about other video sites that have great profit sharing. I only seem to here you talk about youtube remember adsense is good but there alot of other ways to monitize your blog the same goes for videos there are alot of good companies that will make you more money then youtube.com

Your are on your way to being an actor and director. I am sure you will branch out now and start producing science fictions and comedies. Are you going to have a weekly show now that you are in the big time? Your youtube channel may be larger than ABC, NBC and FOX.

@vic - as far as i know the upload is unlimited for partners
@geekboys - I repeatedly tell people to use tubemogul.com and upload to ALL of them
youtube is just my favorite. also, I don't make videos for direct profit, I make them cause they are fun and to drive traffic.

Congrats! I am looking into using video on my sites, and was wondering what equipment you are using for yours. I didn't know if I needed to fork out a lot of money to get started with it.
Also, are you using Camtasia or something similar to capture screenshots?

@Elliott - the flip video camera works fine and so does a cheap version of sony vegas or the free movie maker

Hey Mark, wish I seen this yesterday but oh well. I am also looking for icons to place on my site that link back to my youtube channel to try and boost subscribers there.

YouTube seems very up and down with how they judge people for acceptance. I got turned down for the 2nd time today, despite having over 2k subs, 200k video views and 20k channel views. I've emailed people inquiring precisely what they're looking for in terms of stats, but I've not heard back. I'd like to believe there is some reason behind it all, not just the whim of editors.
